The more things change...the more they remain the same. KIDS need to do their homework. If they want to make hiphop ala' 88'...it would help if they familiarized themselves with the sounds, production techniques, etc of 88'. These kiddie groups just ain't cutting the mustard...and as an elder hiphopper...if I have to think about whether these groups are just making tongue-in-cheek, irony filled rap odes to days past or honest attempts at recapturing said era...then it's a very good possibility that it's the former and not the latter.
