CHAPTER 8 Joe: (gets up) Dude, what happened? Nick: I'd rather not talk about it right now. Kevin: That bad? Nick: No. Good. VERY good. EXTREMELY good. but can we just go see Alyssa and Abbey now? Joe: Yes, let's! (Eager to see Alyssa) Kevin: (Elbowed him) Joe!!! Joe: Okay, okay. Whenever you wanna talk, Nick. Nick: Thanks. The boys went (but Joe more like ran) to Alyssa's room across the hallway. Kevin: You can go with Joe if you want, I'm going to go talk to Abbey. Nick: But where is she? Kevin: I have no idea. I'll search the entire hospital if I have to. (Kevin immediately leaves and runs down the hall in the other direction.) Nick stuck his hands in his pockets, and walked toward Alyssa's room to join his brother in prayer. When he got near to the door, he heard Joe singing. Quietly, though. He peered his head through the door, unnoticed. Alyssa was lying in a bed, stiff as an iceburg, and as cold looking as you would imagine a ghost would be. All the color had drained from her skin, but Joe didn't seem to care. He was sitting beside her motionless body, with his hand in hers. He quietly sang A Little Bit Longer. He bowed his head as if praying to God, but when Nick almost thought he was, he raised his head and his face was red and puffy. Endless tears fell down his cheeks, landing on Alyssa's hand. Drop. Drop. Drop. And, as if touched by an angel, Alyssa's same hand moved. Joe gasped and wiped the tears from his face. He looked up and saw Nick, and he motioned for him to come in. He closed the door behind him, and sat in a chair by Joe. They were silent, watching Alyssa. Joe was waiting for something else to happen, and then, her hand moved once again. Joe was just staring at her with his mouth wide open. He began to sing Lovebug. She moved. Just then a nurse came in. Joe: Oh, I'm sorry. Nurse: Oh, no. Don't be. Keep singing. It looks as if she is responding. Joe continued from where he left off. After he sang the chorus a second time, her eyes fluttered. Nick: Keep going. Joe: Now I'm speechless, over the edge of just breathless, I never thought..... Alyssa: Joe. Joe: Alyssa! Alyssa: That was wonderful. don't stop. Joe: Anything. "i never thought that I'd catch this Lovebug again...." Nick's P.O.V* When he said that part, Kirsten popped into my head. I pictured her when I had first layed eyes on her at Starbuck's just today. I pictured her face as I told her that I already had a girlfriend. Heartbroken. I pictured watching that tear fall from her cheek and softly onto the grass outside the coffee shop. I pictured her helpless body in that bed. I was about to get up and go see her again, but I decided not to. Then, from outside the door, I heard nearby yelling. It sounded like Kevin. Hey, it was Kevin! I stood up, about to retreat to the door, but it swung open, revealing an unwanted and oh too familiar person. ????: Hello, Nick. BAM FO SHO! Getting better, hm? Who is at the door, and why was Kevin yelling? Did he and Abbey talk? So many question...ahhhhh....!!! Anywayz, please comment and subscribe!
