JAMES OWEN BUSH - TEAM OF THE CENTURY

Back

In 1997 Team Canada '72 were having a reunion for the 25th anniversary of the 1972 Summit Series. James Owen Bush, who I had met in 1996 was asked by Ron Ellis on behalf of the team to write and perform a song at their 25th Anniversary Charity game at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto & at their Team Reunion banquet at The Royal York Hotel. James had been nominated for Best New Male Vocalist at the 1996 CCMA Awards the year before. James had a deadline & he gave me a call. We got Ron Ellis involved and he sent us some notes on what had transpired privately within the group of players during their incredible series with the Russians. He gave us some special inside information. When we played at the game and at the banquet the song was embraced whole-heartedly by all the players & they suggested that it should be used for the DVD set of the series which was under development at the time. That never happened, but it would have been nice. The great arrangement here, is by Mark Armstrong and is enhanced by the wonderful keyboard wizardry of Doug Riley(Dr. Music). Hope you like it.
