UP Janesville Industrial Lead + More of WSOR's HJ03

Back

This video starts with another Union Pacific operation rarely documented by railfans, the industrial lead that crosses Highway 14 (remaining stub of C&NW Fond du Lac main). We see UPY MP15DCs 1320 and 1323 (the latter of which went to Evansville on Tuesday) just finished switching the customers at the end of the line, and they back up to retrieve their ex-C&NW bay window caboose #10946. Once that is done they cross Highway 14. The crossing is a few blocks west of the crossing of the WSOR's ex-MILW line at the intersection of Kennedy Road. 1320 has a sweet Leslie S3L horn similar to that of WSOR 4008. Never heard such a horn on a UPY MP15DC before. Moving to the Memorial Drive crossing, we see the train pass again. This part of the line is shared by WSOR and UP, since a portion of the MILW line has been removed. Even though WSOR runs a lot more traffic than Union Pacific over this section of line, it is UP-owned so they get priority over it. The much longer WSOR HJ03 is held up, and a few minutes after the UP passes we see it pull up to the crossing, stop and reverse to do some switching. A short time later it pulls through the crossing and heads for the yard, still with its eleven bilevel coaches in tow. Note that the WSOR blows its horn for Memorial Drive while the UP train did not.
